New Christian Class

Dear New Class Member,
Kenneth and I are so happy that you have invited Jesus into your heart and to become the ruling partner in your life.  That decision will change your life forever.  You are beginning on a life journey with God.  From now on, you will be asking Him:  "What should I do about this concern in life?"  "What do You want me to do with my life?"  "In what way can I serve You better?"
To help you strengthen and grow in your new life in Christ, our church will provide you with a copy of the "Survival Kit."  This book is composed of introductory lessons in your new found faith.  It will help you deal with the many problems that will confront you as a new Christian, and it will help you develop a regular devotional life.  I know it sounds like a lot, but it is approximately 15 weeks of lessons in faith.  It doesn't sound like that much, however, when we say that you do only one lesson at a time -- 15 to 20 minutes each day.  You will use your Bible daily in this study.  We encourage you to study it, to love it, to trust it, and depend on it.  Your Bible will become your guide, throughout your life.
Here are some suggestions that will be important to you.  Find the time that is best for you to do your daily bible study in the Survival Kit.  It may take several tries before you find the right time for you.  Don't give up.  Remember the only wrong time for having a daily quiet time is no time at all.  Then establish a place for that quiet time.  The place should be quiet and should be where you will not be disturbed.
Start each quiet time in Prayer.  Ask the Lord to open both your heart and mind, so that the Holy Spirit may guide you in your daily walk and life lessons He may have for you.  You may want to work in your Survival Kit with a pencil.  As you allow the Holy Spirit to guide you, an answer or two may change.
Whether your Christian life began one week ago or many years ago, know this.  Satan is hard at work trying to use and defeat you.  This study will give you a better grip on how to let your quiet time of Bible study and Prayer guide you to be a survivor.
One significant thing God has taught me is that He is with me regardless of how I feel.  If I am sick, depressed, anxious, guilty, or whatever, He is with me.  He is with me in all life's moments.  Faith in His promise to be with us all the time brings blessings we can't imagine.  Remembering this, keep your date with your bible and survival kit.
Thank you for faithfulness and making a commitment to your walk with Christ.  If you should have any questions, do not hesitate to email us at  We look forward to seeing you in class on January 4, 2015.
With Our Love and Prayers,
Kenneth & Annie Smith
